Above all, however, the machine has no feelings, it feels no fear and no hope ... it operates according to the pure logic of probability. For this reason I assert that the robot perceives more accurately than man. – Max Frisch
MACHINE BOY - THE HAPPY EP
The Happy EP – 5 remixes of Happy Very Happy by the brilliant Birmingham mechanised music maestro Machine Boy as he begins to make his move from the esoteric to mainstream electronic consciousness.
He takes the thorny subject matter of duplicity and creates 'Crushed', 'Album', 'Instrumental' and 'aLive impromptu' mixes to accompany the original track. They run one after the other in varying tempo and motion.'Crushed' mix is fast and stripped back with isolated and repetitive hooks. The 'Album' mix has an atmospheric orchestral instrumental, whilst the actual 'Instrumental' mix is a nod to the 8bit movement.
The different elements running through each of the five tracks don’t seem to detract from the fact that they hang together nicely. You could play this EP from start to finish and it would seem like a super-long progressive electronic experience.
As it flows through from beginning to end it proves it's worth as a multi-textured electronic offering concluding with 'aLive impromptu'- a driving Vangelis inspired mix-which is a staggering 16mins long. Machine Boy has won the battle of prog rock vs electronica in the long track stakes.
